In the theoretical examination the applicant must give written replies to 16 questions: four in each of the following disciplines:
The applicant must compose the answers him/herself and achieve at least 50% of possible points in each discipline, making the overall pass threshold also 50%.
The Morse code receiving test lasts three minutes: one minute a random mix of letters, figures and punctuation, a second minute of plain text in Latvian or English, and the last minute is typical Amateur traffic. The text for the transmission test is composed on the same principles.
Examinations are held at least twice per year, usually in March and October, basically in the Latvian language. English and Russian is also acceptable - in such a case an early application is required in order to make the appropriate preparations. The examination fee is 6 US Dollars per session (theoretical and Morse code).
Learning aids are available: the Latvia Telecommunication Inspection offers applicants copies of related documents.
